Frenco GmbH expands its spur gear measuring services!

Frenco GmbH from Altdorf near Nuremberg in Germany expands its measuring services and increases the spectrum of its DKD calibration laboratory. Whereas previously it was only possible to calibrate individual form errors on the profile and tooth curve in line with the Deutsche Kalibrierdienst (DKD – German association of calibration laboratories), this calibration coverage was expanded in June 2005 to the remaining parameters being pitch, runout and size over balls. With this, FRENCO GmbH is once again leading the way. Frenco - the only calibration laboratory worldwide - is now authorized to completely calibrate and DKD certify spur gears.

DKD_Urkunde_web Accreditation, which is required for the above, was carried out by the DKD accreditation body in Brunswick, Germany in accordance with DIN / ISO 17025. This international standard specifies the calibration laboratory’s requirements and provides a basis for regular monitoring visits by the DKD-authorities. FRENCO must demonstrate its expertise and obtain certification by the governmental agency.

An essential point when calibrating so-called reference artifacts is the size of the measurement uncertainty. To this end FRENCO GmbH has initialized and financed a project together with the Physikalisch Technischen Bundesanstalt (highest technical authority under the auspices of the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Labor) in Brunswick on the complete calibration of gear artifacts. Within this project calibration methods for pitch and runout were developed, which make measurement uncertainties of approximately one micrometer possible – which again is unparalleled worldwide.

In addition to the complex DKD calibration of gears and gear artifacts, Frenco the gear and spline specialist also offers monitoring of inspection equipment such as profiled gauges, master gears and setting masters as well as the inspection of profiled workpieces. The DKD accreditation also provides the basis for the inspection of the measurement uncertainty.
